Hello, I’m Kevin Lasting, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT150173) and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC17873) with a background in the arts, forensic mitigation, community mental health, and private practice. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, studied at NYU, lived and worked in Europe for nearly a decade, and later earned my master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. My clinical training has included work with adults, children, teens, couples, and families, as well as psychodynamic process groups. My approach to therapy is warm, thoughtful, and engaged. I work primarily from a psychodynamic and relational perspective, informed by attachment theory, object relations, somatic awareness, and affective neuroscience. I’m interested not only in the symptoms that bring someone to therapy, but also in the deeper patterns beneath them — the ways we learn to protect ourselves, relate to others, manage difficult feelings, and repeat experiences that may no longer serve us. Many of the people I work with are struggling with anxiety, depression, anger, grief, relationship difficulties, identity, destructive habits, or a persistent sense of feeling stuck. You may understand your patterns intellectually and still find yourself repeating them. You may be successful in many areas of life but feel disconnected, dissatisfied, or uncertain about what you actually want. Or you may simply sense that there is more going on beneath the surface and want a place to explore it honestly. Therapy can offer the opportunity to slow these patterns down and understand them differently. Together, we pay attention to what is happening in your relationships, your emotional life, your body, and in the therapy itself. My role is to listen closely, ask meaningful questions, notice connections, and help you explore experiences that may have been difficult to recognize, put into words, or process. I see therapy as a collaborative process and the therapeutic relationship as an important part of the work. My hope is to create a space where you can feel both supported and challenged — a place to become more curious about yourself, understand what has shaped you, and begin moving toward a life and relationships that feel more authentic, connected, and alive.
